Railcar Carman / Valve Technician

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB: The following duties are required, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Assist with internal cleaning of railcars

  • Removing and replacing railcar parts for blasting and lining operations

  • Labeling, protecting, and storage of railcar parts

  • Stenciling railcars from ground, scaffolding, and ladders

  • Operate torque wrenches, grinder, and other hand tools

  • Entering and washing out inside of railcars

  • Assist with installation of scaffolding inside of railcars

  • Operate forklifts

  • Properly label, store, remove and replace railcar valves and other items

  • Nondestructive Testing

  • Preventative maintenance and verification of calibrated equipment

  • Maintain work area keeping free of trash

  • Read, understand, and record results in work orders, company procedures, and log books

Must Be:

  • Hard working

  • Physically fit

  • Willing to work in all weather elements

  • Willing to get dirty

  • Lift at least 50 pounds

  • Work under a production and quality emphasis environment

  • Willing to be trained in OSHA safety training and Hazmat training

  • Will train the right person to perform Non destructive testing

  • Drive Forklift

Must Be able:

  • Climb rail cars while wearing harness, crawl underneath railcars, work in rail cars.

  • Work with Torque Wrenches.

  • Follow quality standards and perform work based on quality procedures.

  • Experience is a plus but will train hard working individuals.

Candidate:

  • Must pass drug screen

  • Pass a fit test and wear a respirator

  • work in confined spaces
